my mouth is dry, parched, a thick sticky wad of cotton hanging on the back of my tongue. clogging my throat, stifling my breath. swallow. swallow. gag. repeat repeat. repeat.
the air conditioner's on. whirring and clanking, trying to hold on while summer advances even further into october. coughing and sputtering, almost in unison now. a rhythm a song a heartbeat resounding in the dying autumn light
